A fire gutted an Aadhaar enrolment centre inside the Morigaon Revenue Circle Officer’s office in Assam in the early hours of Monday, destroying enrolment machines and other materials.
The blaze broke out around 3 am on October 19, prompting fire and emergency services personnel to rush to the premises. They brought the fire under control, but the centre suffered extensive damage.
A possible electrical short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire, although officials have yet to confirm the cause.
The incident has raised concerns over a possible disruption to Aadhaar enrolment services in the area. The extent of the damage to the facility and the impact on its operations remain unclear.
