Nagaon: In a significant crackdown on the Bir Lachit Sena, the Nagaon police have arrested several leaders and members of the outfit in two separate operations last night here.
According to reports, the Nagaon Sadar police arrested Kamar Nazman, the Vice President of the Nagaon district committee, and Trailokya Saikia, the Secretary of the same committee. Nazman’s residence is located at Faujdaripatty in Nagaon town, while Saikia hails from Morikolong Borghat.
In another operation, the Samaguri police arrested Dipjyoti Phukan, the President of the Kaliabor Anchalik Committee, Pranjal Das, and Rupti Borah, members of the Bir Lachit Sena. The Samaguri police have registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyai Sanghita and are conducting further investigation.

The arrests were made following complaints of extortion and other alleged activities by the Bir Lachit Sena members. It is alleged that the arrested individuals had demanded money from a cattle trader in Samaguri’s Rangagarha area just a few days ago.
The police action comes after the Chief Minister’s recent announcement to take strict action against the Bir Lachit Sena. The outfit has been facing scrutiny for its alleged activities, and the police are likely to take further action against those found involved.
