Agartala: Five Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured and a vehicle was vandalised after suspected cattle smugglers attacked them near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Friday evening.
The incident occurred along the Bishalgarh–Kamthana Road when BSF personnel at the Kamthana border outpost signalled a vehicle to stop, but it sped toward a nearby cattle market. The team pursued the vehicle, leading to a confrontation with suspected smugglers that soon turned violent.
Bishalgarh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bikash Das said five BSF personnel sustained injuries, and their vehicle was damaged before the attackers fled the scene. A formal complaint was registered, and police have begun efforts to trace and arrest the culprits.
A video of the incident circulating on social media showed a senior BSF officer expressing frustration that onlookers failed to intervene during the assault, drawing attention to the growing threat from organised cattle-smuggling groups along the sensitive border.
