Five Insurgent Cadres Held Near Indo-Myanmar Border, Key Accused in NH-2 Arson Case Arrested in Manipur

Imphal, March 17: Security forces and police in Manipur have arrested five cadres linked to valley-based insurgent groups (VBIGs) and apprehended a key accused in a recent arson case along National Highway-2, officials said.

According to sources, security forces carried out an operation on March 16 in the sensitive border belt under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The operation led to the arrest of five insurgent cadres from a stretch between Border Pillars 73 and 75 along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The arrested individuals were identified as Thangjam Ashok Kumar Singh alias Khongthang and Laishram Nipamacha Singh alias Loiya, both linked to the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak. Another individual, Thangjam Manimatum Meitei alias Sana, was found to be associated with the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup. The remaining two, Laishram Inao Singh alias Sanamacha and Chingangbam Shakti Singh alias Phairen, were affiliated with the Kangleipak Communist Party.

In a separate development, Manipur Police arrested a key accused in connection with a truck arson incident reported earlier this month along National Highway-2.

The case relates to the burning of a truck at Kabinam village in Senapati district on March 2. Following an investigation, police arrested the main accused, Ramayo Vashum, 51, a resident of Kathiko Karong in Senapati district, on March 14.

Officials said a Maruti Gypsy bearing registration number MN08 A0099, along with two mobile phones allegedly used in the commission of the crime, was seized during the operation.

All arrested individuals are in custody, and further investigations are underway.
