Foreign tourist arrivals to Kaziranga surge 127% in three years: Assam CM

Guwahati, Dec 30: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 30 said foreign tourist arrivals to Kaziranga National Park had risen sharply over the past three years, reflecting growing global confidence in the state’s tourism and conservation efforts.

In a post on X, Sarma said the world was discovering Kaziranga “like never before”, citing a 127.3 per cent increase in foreign visitors. He attributed the rise to improved conservation measures, rich cultural heritage and community-driven tourism initiatives, and invited travellers to experience “#AwesomeAssam”.

According to data shared by the Chief Minister, Kaziranga received 2,947 foreign tourists in 2022–23. The number rose to 6,699 visitors in 2025–26 till December 27, marking a significant increase over the three-year period.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga is globally known for its one-horned rhinoceros and diverse wildlife. Officials said the steady growth in international footfall has boosted Assam’s tourism economy and validated the state’s focus on sustainable, conservation-led tourism.
