Dr Gyanashree Bora, who recently resigned from her government service, is set to rejoin the Raijor Dal on Thursday, party president Akhil Gogoi announced through a Facebook post.
Dr Bora was serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Goalpara College, a position she had taken up in June 2023. With her resignation, she is returning to active politics after a brief academic stint.
Confirming the development on social media, Akhil Gogoi said Dr Bora will formally rejoin the Raijor Dal today at around 3 pm at Agnideep Hotel in Guwahati’s ABC locality.
Before entering government service, Dr Bora had played an active role in the Raijor Dal. She served as the party’s spokesperson and also headed its women’s wing as president, making her a familiar face within the party’s organisational structure.
Speaking after stepping down from her academic post, Dr Bora said she would once again engage fully in politics. Her return has generated political buzz, with indications that she may contest the upcoming elections as a Raijor Dal candidate from either the Khumtai or Moriani constituency.
Her re-entry into the party is being seen as a boost for the Raijor Dal as it prepares for the next phase of electoral politics in Assam.
