Agartala, Aug 3: Former Tripura Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura has dismissed reports claiming that he has retired from politics after resuming his teaching profession, clarifying that he remains an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and continues to serve on the party’s core committee.
Reacting to the reports, Rebati Tripura said he was surprised that claims about his political exit were circulated without any attempt to verify the facts with him.
He said he had been a teacher before entering politics, having joined the teaching profession in 2001. After joining the BJP in 2014, he became actively involved in politics and was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2018. During his tenure as an MP, he remained on leave from his teaching job.
Explaining his return to the classroom, the former parliamentarian said there are currently no major elections or significant party programmes requiring his full-time political engagement.
He said that after consulting the headmaster, he resumed his duties as a Political Science teacher at Mahatma Gandhi Class 12 School, a government-aided institution.
Rebati Tripura emphasised that his decision to return to teaching should not be misconstrued as a withdrawal from politics.
“I have not quit politics. I remain active in politics and continue to discharge my responsibilities as a BJP core committee member. My return to the classroom should not be interpreted as my exit from political life,” he said.
He also pointed out that teachers and employees of government-aided schools are permitted to participate in political activities under the existing rules, adding that balancing both professional and political responsibilities is entirely legitimate.
