JORHAT, Aug. 7: The Madhu Dibya Foundation, in collaboration with the Dainandin Barta Group, on Friday launched a campaign to distribute high-yield rice seedlings to flood-affected farmers in Upper Assam, beginning with the sowing of the improved Bina-17 variety at Tamolbari in Titabar.
The initiative forms part of the foundation’s ongoing relief efforts in the flood-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat, where it has been distributing food, essential supplies, medicines and conducting free health check-ups.
The programme, titled Service is Our Supreme Duty, aims to help farmers restore cultivation on flood-damaged farmland and revive agricultural livelihoods.
Project Executive Arun Saikia, Project Supervisor Ranju Hazarika, Ganesh Saikia, Papu Saikia, Anil Saikia and other volunteers participated in the sowing of Bina-17 paddy over one hectare of land.
Madhu Dibya Foundation Chairman and Dainandin Barta Group member Prosenjit Rajkhowa attended the inaugural programme and encouraged farmers to adopt the improved variety. The initiative was supported by Dainandin Barta Group Managing Director and Editor Sankar Gohain and Executive Editor Dimpul Chutia.
Foundation Director Dr Dibyashree Saikia thanked those associated with the programme for their support.
The organisers said flood-affected farmers would be able to collect Bina-17 seedlings free of cost from the nursery from September 2 after prior registration through the contact numbers provided by the foundation.
