Four Arrested, 147 Kg Narcotics Seized in Major Anti-Drug Operation in Manipur’s Jiribam

Security forces have dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking networks with the arrest of four alleged traffickers and the seizure of 147 kilograms of narcotic and psychotropic substances in Manipur’s Jiribam district on December 16. The large haul, which included Yaba tablets, was recovered during a targeted operation in the Leinaganpokpi area under the jurisdiction of Jiribam Police Station.

Officials said the operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs indicating the movement of a large consignment of illegal drugs through the area. Acting swiftly, security personnel intercepted and detained four individuals suspected to be involved in inter-state trafficking. The accused have been identified as Faruk Ali of Assam’s Barpeta district, Santosh Patel from Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh, Mafij Uddin of Kamrup district in Assam, and Hanif Ali from Bongaigaon district in Assam.

During the operation, three trucks allegedly used for transporting the contraband were also seized. Investigators believe the narcotics were part of a wider trafficking network operating across multiple states in the Northeast, using road routes to move large quantities of banned substances.

All four accused have been taken into custody for detailed interrogation. Authorities said legal proceedings have been initiated and efforts are underway to trace both forward and backward linkages of the racket to identify other individuals involved.

Security agencies reiterated that operations against drug smuggling will be further intensified as part of a sustained drive to curb the spread of narcotics and dismantle organised trafficking networks in the region.
