Imphal, May 28: Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Thursday said four suspected individuals linked to the kidnapping of six Naga civilians had been arrested, while security forces continued search operations to trace the missing hostages.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to Makhan Naga village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, the Chief Minister said the government was treating the case with seriousness and that investigations were underway to identify and apprehend others involved in the incident.
Singh visited a relief camp for internally displaced persons at Makhan Baptist Church, where around 35 people, including women and children from Konsakhul village, are currently taking shelter. The displaced individuals were among those allegedly taken hostage earlier and later released by armed miscreants.
During the visit, the Chief Minister distributed relief materials including rice, pulses, potatoes, onions, edible oil, sugar, tea leaves and biscuits to the camp inmates.
He also inspected the village community hall and held discussions with local authorities and village leaders regarding arrangements for accommodating additional displaced families. The Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi was directed to ensure the supply of essential items such as mattresses and mosquito nets.
Village representatives informed the Chief Minister that several Naga families in Kangpokpi district had fled their homes amid fear and insecurity following recent incidents in the region.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, several MLAs, and senior civil and police officials during the visit.
