Four Arrested in Imphal West Woman’s Murder Case

Imphal, Dec 29: Manipur Police arrested four people, including the husband and mother-in-law of a 27-year-old woman, in connection with her disappearance and killing in Imphal West district.

Police said the accused were identified as Khaidem Nareshor Singh, the woman’s husband, his mother Khaidem Indira, Moirangthem Dhanajit Singh of Langathel Laikhom Bazar, and Kananbala Devi, also known as Dhaneshwori, from Yairipok Wangkhem. All four were taken into custody as the investigation gathered momentum.

The case related to Khaidem Chaoba Devi of Wangoi Mamang Khaidem, who was reported missing on December 26. Her body was recovered the next morning under suspicious circumstances from within the Ibudhou Pakhangba compound at Thiyam Leishangkhong in the Wangoi area of Imphal West.

Soon after the body was found, family members alleged that the woman had been murdered and accused her husband and others of being involved. The allegations triggered unrest in the locality, with agitated residents and relatives damaging the husband’s house.

Police personnel were deployed to control the situation and disperse the crowd, preventing further escalation. Officials said a detailed probe was underway to reconstruct the events leading up to the woman’s death and to examine the claims made by her family.
