Tezpur: The 12th Special Annual Pancharatna Guwahati Session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha is set to commence on January 31 at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati, running for four days with a series of literary, cultural, and social programmes. Addressing a press conference, Sabha President Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami and Principal Secretary Debajit Bora urged writers, intellectuals, and literature enthusiasts to participate actively and make the session a success.
The inaugural day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the traditional Me-Dam-Me-Phi observance, followed by the inauguration of the main entrance, stage, temporary office, and coordination zones. Delegate registration will take place thereafter. The fourth plenary executive meeting for the 2025–27 term will be held at 3 p.m. in the Sri Sri Madhavadeva International Auditorium, concluding with a cultural evening.
On February 1, the Sabha president will hoist the main flag at 8:45 a.m., followed by the hoisting of 118 flags by representatives of ethnic communities. Tributes and homage will be paid by Vice President Padum Rajkhowa and former Sabha presidents, followed by a cultural procession inaugurated by Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora. The afternoon will feature a literary festival with participation from community leaders and representatives.

The session will include programmes by affiliated wings such as Ramdhenu, Aakash, Kuhi, Kabi Sanmilan, and Yuba Sangsad, with a focus on children and youth. The gathering of around 5,000 permanent members will be inaugurated by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary. Open sessions will be presided over by Dr. Goswami, with Chief Guest CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and special guests including VP of India C.P. Radhakrishnan. Cultural evenings will be held nightly, highlighting Assamese literature and heritage. Principal Secretary Bora called upon all lovers of Assamese literature and culture to participate in this historic celebration.
