Four persons were detained and five pistols along with 13 rounds of live ammunition were recovered in two separate incidents in Assam’s Golaghat and Kamrup districts, police said.
In Golaghat, police launched an operation at Chungajan in Sarupathar and seized four pistols and 13 rounds of ammunition. A youth identified as Rakhal Sheel, reportedly from Dimapur in Nagaland, was detained in connection with the recovery.
The seized weapons included two 7.65 mm pistols and two .22 pistols. Police also recovered a torchlight and a bag containing plastic material from Sheel.
Police are questioning Sheel to determine the source and intended destination of the firearms. The purpose behind the alleged movement of the weapons has not yet been established, and the investigation is continuing.
In a separate case in Kamrup district, local residents intercepted three persons in the Kosorua area of Hajo after allegedly finding them in possession of a pistol. The trio were subsequently handed over to police.
The three were identified as Vishal Moria, Kuldeep and Akash Moria, all from Uttar Pradesh. A pistol and around Rs 1 lakh in cash were reportedly recovered from them.
The three have been taken into police custody and are being questioned as part of the investigation.
Police are conducting further inquiries into both incidents to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession and movement of the firearms.
