Four Militant Cadres Arrested in Intelligence-Led Operations Across Manipur

Imphal, Jan 22: Security forces in Manipur have intensified their crackdown on militant-linked criminal networks, arresting four active cadres involved in extortion and related activities during targeted operations carried out across multiple districts on January 21, officials said.

One of those arrested was Senjam Premjit Singh, 38, an active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba), who was apprehended from Langthabal Khunou Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district. During the operation, security personnel recovered a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card from his possession, which are being examined as part of the investigation.

On the same day, security forces arrested a woman cadre of the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur, identified as Chingakham Ningol Ningthoujam, also known as Rebika Devi, aged 43. She was taken into custody from her current residence at New Lambulane Lane-III under Porompat police station in Imphal East district. Originally a resident of Churachandpur district, she was found with a mobile phone that was seized during the arrest.

Another woman cadre, Nongthombam Abesana Devi alias Machan, 21, linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL), was apprehended from her home in Huikap Makha Leikai under Andro police station, also in Imphal East district. A mobile phone recovered from her residence has been taken into evidence.

In a separate operation, Bungcha Thoudam, alias Khamba, 30, an active cadre of the People’s Liberation Army (Manipur) and its political wing, the Revolutionary People’s Front, was arrested from Singjamei Makha Khongnang Pheidekpi in Imphal West district. Security personnel seized a mobile phone from his residence during the operation.

Officials said the arrests were the result of intelligence-driven combing, cordon and search operations aimed at dismantling extortion rackets and curbing militant-associated criminal activities. Security agencies reiterated that such coordinated actions would continue as part of a broader strategy to restore law and order and disrupt illegal networks operating in the state.
