Imphal: In the early hours of November 4, four cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), a non-Suspension of Operations (SoO) insurgent outfit, were killed during a joint operation by security forces in Khanpi village, about 80 kilometres west of Churachandpur, Manipur.
Defence sources said the encounter erupted after UKNA militants opened unprovoked fire on an Army column conducting an intelligence-based operation in the area. In the ensuing exchange, four insurgents were neutralised.
The operation, which was launched in response to recent violent activities by the group, is still ongoing as troops continue combing operations in adjoining forested areas.
According to the Army, the UKNA had recently been involved in a series of atrocities, including the killing of a village chief, intimidation of civilians, and attempts to spread instability in the region.
The Army and Assam Rifles said the successful operation reflects their continued commitment to protecting civilians and maintaining peace and stability in Manipur’s vulnerable border regions.
