Gas Pipeline from Tripura to Mizoram Progresses Steadily Under NEGG Project

Agartala/Aizawl: A major infrastructure project aimed at transforming energy access in Mizoram is making steady headway, officials confirmed on Wednesday, November 6. The installation of a gas pipeline from Tripura to Mizoram, part of the ambitious North East Gas Grid (NEGG), is currently progressing at a steady pace.

Once operational, the project will bring piped gas connections directly to households across Mizoram, with the capital city Aizawl expected to benefit the most. This initiative is poised to enhance energy efficiency and reduce dependency on conventional fuel sources in the state.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister B. Lalchhanzova chaired a review meeting on Tuesday to evaluate the progress of the pipeline, which runs from Parisagar in Tripura to Sihhmui near Aizawl. The pipeline covers a total distance of 119 kilometres—104 kilometres within Mizoram and the remaining stretch in Tripura.

Officials reported that around 23.5 per cent of the work, equating to approximately 28 kilometres, has been completed so far. The Mizoram government, in collaboration with Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited, which is executing the project, is implementing measures to expedite the remaining construction and ensure the project’s timely completion.
