Guwahati, June 4: The Gauhati High Court is set to hear the bail application of Siddhartha Sharma on June 4, 2026, in connection with the widely discussed Zubeen Garg death case. The matter is scheduled to come up before Justice Parthiv Jyoti Saikia.
Sharma, considered one of the principal accused in the case, moved the High Court after a Special Fast Track Court earlier rejected his request for bail. He filed the fresh bail petition on May 26 while legal proceedings in the case continued.
The accused was arrested on October 1 along with co-accused Shyam Kanu Mahanta. Subsequently, the Special Fast Track Court, presided over by Judge Sharmila Bhuyan, framed charges against Sharma and six other accused persons under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case, registered as State vs Siddhartha Sharma and Six Others, involves charges including criminal conspiracy, murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, extortion, cheating, criminal breach of trust and destruction of evidence.
Besides Siddhartha Sharma, the other accused named in the case are Shyamkanu Mahanta, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, Amritprabha Mahanta, Sandipan Garg, Nandeswar Borah and Paresh Baishya.
With charges already framed, the case is expected to proceed to trial before the Special Fast Track Court. Attention is now focused on the Gauhati High Court, which is expected to decide on Sharma’s bail plea during Thursday’s hearing.
