Gaurav Gogoi Accuses Assam Government of Intimidating Protesting Employees

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday accused the Assam government of creating an environment of “warnings, salary cuts and open intimidation” against employees from key departments who had been protesting for months.

Gogoi said workers from Health, Education, Panchayat and other sectors were only demanding what was “rightfully theirs,” but the state responded with hostility instead of engagement. He alleged that punitive measures targeted National Health Mission doctors, nurses and frontline workers, while 108 ambulance drivers faced indirect threats for joining demonstrations.

He stated that such actions were “unacceptable from a government elected to serve the people,” adding that government employees formed the backbone of Assam’s administration and deserved “dialogue, respect and urgent action.”

Gogoi further assured that the Congress, if elected to power in Assam, would “end this culture of threats and arrogance” and pursue a governance approach based on discussion, dignity and responsibility.
