Guwahati, Feb 8: Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his latest press conference, dismissing it as the “most flop press conference of the century” and comparing it unfavourably to a “C-grade cinema.” Gogoi accused the Chief Minister of resorting to sensationalism and baseless आरोप instead of addressing the real problems facing the people of Assam.
Reacting to the allegations raised by Sarma over Gogoi’s supposed links to Pakistan through his wife Elizabeth Gogoi, the Congress leader described the claims as “mindless and bogus.” He said the press conference failed to offer any substance or clarity and was instead aimed at diverting public attention from serious governance issues.
Gogoi contrasted the press meet with the ongoing #XomoyParivartanYatra, which he said has been drawing strong public response across the state. According to him, the yatra has brought several concerns into focus, including allegations related to the occupation of nearly 12,000 bighas of land by the Chief Minister and his family, issues which he claimed remain unanswered by the government.
“This so-called press conference only proves where the Chief Minister’s priorities lie,” Gogoi said, adding that instead of responding to allegations and public concerns, the government was indulging in what he termed as political theatrics. He maintained that the people of Assam expect transparency, accountability and answers on matters that directly affect their lives, rather than what he described as distraction through unfounded accusations.
