Gaurav Gogoi Calls SIT Row Politically Motivated, Says Focus Should Return to Governance

Guwahati, Feb 8: Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday, February 8, strongly countered recent remarks linked to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), alleging that the issue was being deliberately amplified for political reasons to divert public attention from the government’s failures on governance and public welfare.

Responding to media queries, Gogoi said he has full faith in constitutional and investigative institutions and does not fear any lawful probe. However, he questioned the timing and intent behind the renewed focus on the SIT, suggesting that such controversies are often revived when the ruling establishment comes under pressure over unmet promises, policy gaps and growing public dissatisfaction.

The Congress MP maintained that he has nothing to conceal and would extend complete cooperation to any investigation conducted within the framework of the law. “I have nothing to hide and will cooperate fully. The truth will ultimately come out,” he said, adding that democratic institutions must be allowed to function independently without political interference.

Gogoi cautioned against what he described as the misuse of investigative agencies for political ends, warning that such practices undermine public trust in institutions. He said agencies entrusted with upholding the law should not be dragged into partisan confrontations.

Emphasising the need to refocus public discourse, Gogoi said the priority of the government should be addressing real issues affecting citizens, including development, employment generation, price rise and everyday challenges faced by ordinary people. He described the current controversy as “distraction politics” and urged the ruling establishment to concentrate on governance rather than political diversion.
