Gaurav Gogoi Denies Congress Rebellion Amid Candidate List Row

Guwahati, March 16: Gaurav Gogoi on March 15 dismissed speculation of internal dissent within the Indian National Congress following the release of the party’s second list of candidates for the upcoming elections, asserting that the organisation remains united in the larger interest of Assam.

Speaking to reporters after arriving in Tezpur on Sunday night, Gogoi said the party leadership had not received any resignation letters from senior leaders and maintained that internal discussions are part of the normal political process.

“No resignation letter from any senior Congress leader has been received by us. In the larger interest of Assam, everyone must remain united. There is no rebellion within the Congress. In fact, enthusiasm among the people has only increased after the announcement of the candidate list. Discussions are still ongoing within the party regarding the final list,” Gogoi said.

His remarks came amid reports of discontent within the state unit after the party announced its second list of candidates for the forthcoming elections. The development gained attention after senior Congress leader Praneshwar Basumatary resigned from the party soon after the list was made public, fuelling speculation of unrest within the party ranks.

During his visit to Tezpur, Gogoi met party workers and supporters who gathered in large numbers to greet him. More than a hundred Congress workers assembled at Hotel Greenwood to interact with the senior leader and discuss organisational matters related to the upcoming polls.

Party sources said the meeting focused on strengthening grassroots mobilisation and ensuring coordination among party workers ahead of the elections. Gogoi also interacted with local leaders and emphasised the need for unity within the organisation.

Despite reports of dissent following the candidate announcement, Gogoi reiterated that the party remains focused on consolidating support across the state and preparing for the electoral contest, expressing confidence that the party will move forward collectively as discussions continue over the finalisation of its candidate list.
