Gaurav Gogoi Leads APCC’s ‘Samay Paribartanor’ Yatra to Dibrugarh, Pledges ‘New Greater Assam’

Guwahati, March 2: The second phase of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s ‘Samay Paribartanor’ yatra reached Dibrugarh on March 1, drawing sizeable crowds as padayatras and bike rallies passed through Naharkatia, Duliajan and Tingkhong constituencies. The campaign was led by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, who began the day by seeking blessings at Raidongia Namghar in Naharkatia before proceeding with party workers and supporters across the region.

The Congress delegation received a warm welcome at Nigam Tiniali, where Gogoi addressed supporters and emphasised the need for unity across communities. He reiterated that the Congress remains committed to building a “New Greater Assam” by bringing together people irrespective of caste, creed or religion. According to him, the yatra is not merely an electoral exercise but an effort to directly engage with citizens and understand their concerns.

Highlighting the party’s priorities, Gogoi said the Congress aims to improve educational and healthcare facilities in every village, including tea garden areas. He also underscored the importance of women’s empowerment through the promotion of small-scale enterprises, enabling women to become financially self-reliant. Promising stronger welfare measures under a Congress government, he said eligible women would receive benefits directly into their bank accounts without being required to attend party meetings.

Throughout the day, Gogoi interacted with diverse communities, lighting candles at a Ghinai Baptist church in Dibrugarh, offering prayers at a Tai Phake shrine in Naharkatia and visiting a Namghar in Tipling. In Duliajan, he met workers of Oil India Limited, traders at Tipling Tiniali and farmers at Kacharipathar, engaging in conversations on local issues. The campaign trail resonated with slogans from supporters calling for the return of a Congress government.

Senior party leaders accompanied Gogoi during the programme, including Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, MP Pradyut Bordoloi, former MP Paban Singh Ghatowar and former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, along with members of the Dibrugarh District Congress Committee. Party sources confirmed that the yatra will continue on March 2 in Tinsukia district, covering Makum, Doomdooma and Margherita under the leadership of Gogoi and other senior Congress leaders.
