GUWAHATI, Aug. 7: Congress MP from Assam’s Jorhat constituency Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s absence from the Lok Sabha, claiming that the minister has not attended the House since July 21.
In a post on X, Gogoi alleged that Shah had remained absent from the Lok Sabha for 14 days.
His remarks came days after he demanded that the Home Minister make a statement in Parliament regarding the alleged action taken against student protesters in BJP-ruled states.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi on August 3, Gogoi accused the Centre and state agencies of acting with a “spirit of vendetta” against protesters and said the Congress wanted Shah to address the House on the issue.
The Congress MP also alleged that girls, young women and minor female students were being specifically targeted during the controversy over action against protesters. He questioned whether FIRs would be registered against individuals allegedly using abusive language against women and minor girls on social media.
Gogoi’s latest remarks have renewed the political debate over the Home Minister’s attendance in the Lok Sabha, with the Congress continuing to seek his response on the alleged treatment of student protesters.
