Gaurav Gogoi Takes Pledge to Uphold Zubeen Garg’s Vision of an Inclusive ‘Bor Asom’

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has announced that its president, Gaurav Gogoi, has formally pledged to uphold the ideals and cultural values associated with Assam’s late music legend Zubeen Garg. The commitment, shared publicly by the party on Friday, reflects Gogoi’s vow to continue Zubeen Garg’s dream of a united and inclusive “Bor Asom”.

In a video released by the Congress party, Gogoi, who also serves as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, recited the pledge in honour of the beloved cultural icon. He reiterated his dedication to safeguarding peace, unity, environmental protection and the cultural fabric of the state.

Calling himself the “watchman of Assamese nationality,” Gogoi declared that his vision of a greater Assam would be built on harmony and respect for all communities. He stated that he would stand firmly against divisive forces, discrimination and communal politics, while ensuring equal care and dignity for all, regardless of caste, creed, or religion.

He further pledged to protect Assam’s environment, including its forests, hills, rivers and wildlife, while advocating for the rights of the underprivileged and marginalised. Gogoi also expressed his intention to present the identity of Assamese nationality as a global representation of unity in diversity.

The APCC said the pledge symbolises the party’s commitment to preserving the cultural essence of Assam and strengthening social unity at a time of rising polarisation. The party added that the message aims to inspire collective responsibility in protecting the legacy of Zubeen Garg and the ideals he represented.

The announcement has sparked emotional reactions across the state, resonating strongly with supporters who continue to commemorate Zubeen Garg’s influence on Assam’s cultural and social identity.
