Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday described the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) findings on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged links to Pakistan as “very explosive,” setting off fresh political tremors in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Sarma said the 96-page document contained “numerous papers related to India’s sovereignty” and alleged that a cartel was operating to “defame the country’s development process.” He further claimed that “one Pakistani citizen and the British wife of the MP” had played a key role in the network.

The SIT formally submitted the report in Guwahati on Friday evening. Sarma said he would personally study the findings before placing them before the cabinet, which is expected to take a call on the matter after the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. “This is a serious inquiry concerning national security. Once I go through it in detail, we will decide the next course of action,” he said.
The report has already triggered heated exchanges. The BJP has highlighted it as a matter of security and sovereignty, while the Congress has dismissed the allegations outright. Gogoi himself hit back earlier this week, accusing the Chief Minister of fabricating stories to mislead the public.
