GMC Reports Rs 85 Crore Revenue, Boosts Civic Infrastructure with Ward-Level Funding

Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has reported revenue collections of Rs 80–85 crore this fiscal year and allocated Rs 40 lakh per ward to strengthen local infrastructure and civic amenities. The funds will support road repairs, street lighting, water supply, and sanitation improvements across the city.

Officials said the 2025–26 development plan aims to make Guwahati cleaner and more citizen-friendly, with stronger public participation and better compliance in municipal services. The GMC has also stepped up revenue reforms, urging traders to regularise or renew trade licences, as nearly 37,000 businesses remain non-compliant.

Property tax collection has seen significant progress, with 1.1 lakh out of 1.6 lakh property owners paying dues. Against a target of Rs 130 crore, GMC has achieved Rs 85 crore. Incentives of 5–10% will be offered to early payers, while chronic defaulters could face fines up to 20%.

Each councillor has been allotted Rs 40 lakh for ward projects, along with Rs 10 lakh each for new streetlights and high-mast lights. GMC has already built four public restrooms per ward and targets 200 citywide by 2026.

To tackle urban challenges, 451 drains have been cleaned, with plans to cover 555 more. The Corporation has deployed seven super-sucker vehicles and will soon make 100% of the water supply network functional.

Under the “Clean Guwahati, My Guwahati” campaign, GMC seeks active citizen participation to make the city more sustainable, transparent, and resilient by January 2026.
