Goalpara Police Arrest Two Suspected Drug Peddlers, Seize Heroin, Cash and Mobile Phones

Goalpara, July 5: In a continued crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Assam’s Goalpara Police arrested two suspected drug peddlers during a special anti-drug operation and recovered suspected heroin, mobile phones and cash allegedly connected to the illegal trade.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ilias Ansari and Basirul Islam. According to police, the duo was apprehended during a targeted operation carried out as part of the district’s ongoing drive against drug trafficking.

During the operation, police seized suspected heroin from the possession of the accused. Officials also recovered mobile phones and cash, which are believed to be linked to the alleged narcotics business.

Police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the origin of the seized drugs, identify the supply chain and determine whether additional individuals are involved in the suspected trafficking network. Officials said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.

The latest operation forms part of Assam Police’s sustained campaign against drug trafficking across the state. Over the past several months, law enforcement agencies have conducted a series of operations targeting narcotics networks, resulting in the seizure of heroin, yaba tablets and other contraband, along with the arrest of multiple suspected drug traffickers. The Assam government has maintained that its intensified anti-drug campaign is producing results through coordinated efforts aimed at dismantling organised drug syndicates and curbing the illegal narcotics trade.
