Guwahati: Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Assam, presented the Prag Prerona Awards 2026 to nine distinguished women on the eve of International Women’s Day at a function held in a city hotel in Guwahati on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor congratulated the awardees for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields and described the occasion as a celebration of creativity, cultural excellence and national spirit. He appreciated the initiative of Prag News and Prag TV for providing a platform that recognises women whose work positively impacts society.
Highlighting the significance of the occasion, Acharya said celebrating women’s achievements on the eve of International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the vital role women play in the progress of humanity and the nation. Referring to India’s cultural traditions, he noted that the concept of Shiva and Shakti symbolises the equal importance of women in both cosmic and social life.

He also spoke about the contributions of women across history and in contemporary society, noting their growing presence in education, science, arts, administration, entrepreneurship, sports and social service. The Governor referred to the vision of Narendra Modi, who has emphasised that women’s empowerment is central to the mission of building a “Viksit Bharat”.
Acharya expressed special pride in the achievements of women from the Northeast, particularly Assam, stating that their dedication and resilience continue to inspire society. The event was attended by Managing Director of Prag News Dr Sanjeev Narayan, Managing Director Meghali Narayan, Editor-in-Chief Prashant Rajguru, along with several distinguished guests.
