Guwahati, March 22. Unknown assailants launched a pre-dawn ambush on an Assam Police commando camp at Jagun 10 Mile in Assam’s Tinsukia district on March 22, triggering a brief but intense gun battle and leaving four personnel injured.
The attack occurred around 2 am when at least five grenades were hurled at the camp, followed by heavy gunfire. Security personnel responded immediately, leading to an exchange of fire that lasted for nearly 30 minutes.
Police sources said suspicion points towards the involvement of ULFA (Independent), though no outfit has officially claimed responsibility so far.
Four commandos sustained injuries in the attack, including three with minor wounds and one reported to be in serious condition. The injured personnel were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. They have been identified as Chitrangjan Milli from Jorhat, Devashis Bora, and Ravi Gar Gowala Para from Chabua.
The incident took place in a sensitive tea belt region near the Arunachal Pradesh border, an area that has witnessed sporadic militant activity in the past.
Following the attack, security forces have intensified combing operations in the region. Roadblocks have been set up and aerial surveillance has been deployed as part of efforts to track down the attackers.
