Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania Inaugurates Crematorium Facility in Boko, Fulfils Long-Pending Civic Demand

Guwahati, Feb 28: Mrigen Sarania, Mayor of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, inaugurated a newly constructed public crematorium at Khrapara–Kalitapara village near Chukuniapara in Boko, addressing a long-standing demand of local residents and bridging a critical civic gap.

The facility, comprising a newly built crematorium structure and an iron pyre setup, was formally opened at the public cremation ground in the presence of villagers and local representatives. For decades, families in the area had faced severe hardship due to the absence of basic infrastructure for performing last rites, often encountering logistical challenges and emotional strain during bereavement.

Taking note of the issue, the Mayor personally initiated and financed the project, contributing nearly ₹3 lakh from his own resources to ensure its timely completion. The structure has been equipped with improved amenities to provide a dignified and organised environment for conducting final rites.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Kamrup Zilla Parishad member Kamburam Rabha and other prominent community leaders. Speakers at the event praised the initiative, describing it as a compassionate and responsive step towards grassroots governance.

Residents expressed gratitude for the facility, stating that it has fulfilled a long-pending civic necessity and offered much-needed relief to families during their most difficult moments.
