Guwahati: The ninth edition of the Guwahati Open Junior Tennis Championship 2026, organised by the Guwahati Tennis Association, commenced with a vibrant opening at the Tennis Centre, Rudra Singha Sports Complex on Tuesday. The championship features competitions in Boys’ and Girls’ Singles across Under-12, Under-14, and Under-18 categories, along with a combined Under-10 singles event. With a total scholarship prize pool of ₹2.2 lakh, cash awards will be distributed from the semifinal stage onwards in all categories.
Sponsored by Pride East Entertainment Private Limited, Oil India Limited, Campa, and HEAD, the tournament has drawn around 150 participants from across the region, highlighting growing interest in junior tennis. In the Under-10 combined singles, Chaayan Kalita defeated Hridhiman Hazarika 4-1, while Darpan Barua overcame Ayushman Shil 4-0 in the opening round. Chinmoy Boro, Pragnay Mittal, and Jivyan Agarwala also registered convincing wins in subsequent rounds.

In the Boys’ Under-14 category, Akshat Kumar, Rayyan Zia, and Raktim Borgohain advanced comfortably with 6-1 victories in their respective matches. Other notable winners included Arab Sarma, Satyam Singha, and Kanav Saini, all progressing with dominant performances. The championship is expected to continue over the coming days with intense matches, providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and compete at a high level.
