Guwahati Police Bust Flesh Trade Racket, Rescue 13 Women

Guwahati: In a major crackdown on illegal activities, Guwahati city police on Wednesday raided five spas across different parts of the city and rescued 13 women who were allegedly being forced into the flesh trade. Ten people were arrested in connection with the case, police officials said. The coordinated raids were carried out following specific intelligence inputs about unlawful activities being conducted under the guise of unisex spas. The establishments targeted were located in areas under Chandmari, Paltanbazar, Panbazar and Geeta Nagar police station limits.

Briefing the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police Shambhavi Mishra said the police had been keeping a close watch after receiving credible information about immoral activities at certain spas. Based on the inputs, five such centres were identified and simultaneous raids were conducted. During the operation, the police rescued 13 women who were allegedly being coerced into immoral activities by the spa owners and operators. Ten persons, including a woman, were arrested from different locations, while another woman believed to be involved in the racket is currently absconding.

All the arrested accused have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Police said efforts are on to trace and apprehend the absconding accused, while further investigation is underway to identify possible links and uncover the wider network behind the operation.
