Guwahati Police Foil Kidnapping Bid, Rescue Victim and Arrest Eight in Late-Night Operation

Guwahati: In a swift and coordinated operation, Dispur Police in Guwahati rescued a man who had allegedly been abducted from outside Pratikshya Hospital in Borbari late on Sunday night. Eight individuals suspected to be involved in the kidnapping were taken into custody, while efforts to trace additional accomplices are currently underway.

The incident was reported when Ershad Khan, a resident of Goalpara, informed police that his friend Rahul Mishra had been forcibly taken by a group of 10 to 15 people. The abductors were said to have demanded a ransom ranging between ₹15 and ₹20 lakh for Mishra’s release.

Responding without delay, a police team from Dispur Police Station launched a search and successfully located the kidnappers at Tribeni Path. Mishra was found being confined inside two vehicles bearing registration numbers AS01 EM 0718 and AS23 Q 3566. Six suspects were apprehended on the spot, while two others were arrested later during the night-long chase and investigation.

Police also recovered several items believed to have been used during the abduction. These include baseball bats, a hockey stick, a double-edged knife, pepper spray bottles, multiple mobile phones, and documents linked to an entity identified as Veer Lachit Sena. Among the materials were identity cards, a receipt book allegedly used to collect money in the organization’s name, and several applications for financial assistance allegedly signed by an individual associated with the group. Investigators suspect the presence of an extortion network operating under the guise of the organization.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Biswajit Doley, Injamul Huque, Rohan Ali, Mohan Borah, Nitu Ahmed, Chinmay Dev, Riyaj Ahmed, and Biraj Ballav Kalita. Legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant sections related to kidnapping, extortion, criminal intimidation, and unlawful activities.
