Guwahati: Basistha Police arrested an alleged drug peddler and seized 30 grams of heroin during an operation at Notun Bazar in Guwahati on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Nur Alam Ansari alias Babu, a resident of Milijuli Path in the city. According to police, the suspected heroin was concealed inside two tobacco boxes. Eleven empty vials, allegedly used for distributing drugs, were also recovered during the operation. A mobile phone was seized from the accused.

Police suspect that Babu was involved in drug trafficking in and around the area. Following the seizure and arrest, investigators have launched a detailed probe to trace the source of the suspected heroin and identify other members who may be linked to the alleged drug network. The seized mobile phone and other materials are also being examined as part of the investigation, police said.
The arrest comes amid intensified anti-narcotics operations by Assam Police across Guwahati, with enforcement agencies focusing on suspected drug trafficking and distribution networks. Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the accused’s alleged involvement and determine whether the seized narcotics were intended for local distribution.
