Himanta Biswa Sarma Bets on Women, Gen Z Support as NDA Eyes Big Win in Assam Polls

Guwahati, March 28: Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 27 expressed strong confidence in the prospects of the BJP-led alliance in the upcoming Assembly elections, stating that women and Gen Z voters are emerging as key drivers of electoral momentum in Assam.

Speaking during campaign engagements, Sarma highlighted what he described as growing enthusiasm among voters, particularly women and young people. “You will find women at public meetings and youth at rallies. There is tremendous enthusiasm among them. This election is being fought by Gen Z and women, and we are going to see a great result,” he said.

Referring to his recent campaign stops in Dhakuakhana and Lakhimpur, the Chief Minister said constituencies that were once closely contested have now evolved into “A+ seats.” He attributed this shift to governance initiatives and development efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Projecting confidence in the outcome, Sarma asserted that voters are likely to deliver a decisive mandate in favour of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party, Asom Gana Parishad, and Bodoland People’s Front. “People are excited, and we are ready for the elections. We are confident of a thumping majority,” he said.

He also downplayed the role of the opposition, including the Indian National Congress, stating that engaging with them would only provide them with unnecessary publicity.

The Chief Minister further announced that the alliance’s vision document will be released shortly, outlining its governance roadmap ahead of the polls. Voting for all 126 Assembly constituencies is scheduled for April 9, with counting of votes set for May 4.
