Guwahati, Feb 26: Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday, February 26 announced a series of initiatives to support students and boost Assam’s education and technology sectors.
Speaking at a press briefing after launching the ‘Mukhyamantrir Nijut Babu Achoni’ at Jyoti-Bishnu International Auditorium, Sarma said postgraduate students will receive ₹2,000 per month for 10 months annually under the scheme, while undergraduate students will get ₹1,000 per month for 10 months. The benefit will be extended to students from families with an annual income below ₹4 lakh, including those in the second and third years of graduation.
The Chief Minister also launched the ‘Jeevan Prerana Achoni’, under which 48,319 students who graduated in 2025 will receive ₹2,500 per month. Research scholars enrolled after April 1, 2021 in state and central universities in Assam will receive ₹25,000 as financial assistance. A total of 2,112 research scholars will benefit, including 13 specially-abled researchers who will receive ₹40,000 each.
Sarma virtually inaugurated 34 new technology centres under the ‘Udyog 4.0’ initiative across ITIs and polytechnic institutes in the state, with an investment of around ₹3,000 crore.
The state government has signed an agreement with the Tata Group and will soon formalise another with Tata Nelco to introduce advanced technology education in schools and colleges. He further informed that aircraft manufacturing firm Dorcel has announced plans to establish a technology centre at Gauhati University.
Sarma said the initiatives aim to usher Assam’s education system into a new era, with a strong emphasis on technology and artificial intelligence.
