Guwahati, March 6: Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, on March 6 laid the foundation stone for a new building of the Dibrugarh Press Club, a move aimed at improving infrastructure for the media fraternity in the region.
The new press club building will come up at Dakshin Jalan Nagar in Dibrugarh and is expected to provide journalists with a permanent and well-equipped space to carry out their professional responsibilities. The project is seen as an important step towards strengthening facilities available to media professionals in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to supporting the media and acknowledging its role as the fourth pillar of democracy. He noted that the new building would create a better working environment for journalists and contribute to the effective functioning of the press club.
Once completed, the facility is expected to become a key centre for media-related activities in the district, providing space for meetings, discussions and other professional engagements of journalists.
