Himanta Biswa Sarma, Mansukh Mandaviya Discuss Sports Infrastructure and Worker Welfare in Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on May 31 to discuss strengthening sports infrastructure in the state and enhancing welfare initiatives for workers.

The meeting, which took place at the Union Minister’s official residence, lasted for more than an hour and focused on measures aimed at expanding sporting facilities across Assam while also exploring ways to create better opportunities and support systems for workers.

Sharing details of the interaction on social media platform X, Sarma referred to the BJP’s guiding principle of “Sewa First” and expressed gratitude to Mandaviya for dedicating time on his birthday to discuss issues related to Assam’s growth and development.

According to the Chief Minister, the discussions centred on developing world-class sports infrastructure in the state and creating an enabling environment for the welfare and advancement of “Shramjeevis” or workers.

Sarma also extended his birthday greetings to the Union Minister and sought continued support from the Central government for Assam’s efforts to establish itself as a major sporting destination in the country.

In his message, the Chief Minister said he conveyed his best wishes to Mandaviya and requested his continued cooperation in the state’s mission to transform Assam into a leading sports hub of India.

The meeting comes as the Assam government continues to invest significantly in sports infrastructure and host major national and international sporting events. These initiatives form part of a broader strategy to position the state as a prominent centre for sports in the Northeast and across the country.

The state government has repeatedly emphasised that improving sporting facilities, nurturing emerging talent and attracting high-profile sporting competitions will remain key components of Assam’s development agenda in the years ahead.
