GUWAHATI, August 19: The sacred month of Bhadra began across Assam on Wednesday, with satras and naamghars reverberating with devotional chants and traditional Vaishnavite prayers.
At Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, devotees and Vaishnav followers gathered from early morning to mark the beginning of the holy month. Naam-kirtan and devotional rituals created a spiritual atmosphere at the historic shrine.
As part of the month-long observance, Batadrava Than will host Ashtadash Prasang, with religious programmes scheduled from morning until midnight.
The shrine is expected to remain filled with Hari Naam and naam-kirtan throughout Bhadra as devotees participate in prayers and traditional rituals. The gathering has turned Batadrava Than into a major spiritual centre, with devotees regarding the birthplace of Sankardeva as a “second Vaikunthapur” during the holy month.
