Guwahati, March 18: An HPV vaccination campaign aimed at preventing cervical cancer has been launched in Udalguri, as part of a nationwide initiative to address the growing number of cases associated with the disease.
The programme began on March 18, targeting 14-year-old girls, with the first phase of vaccination carried out at Udalguri Civil Hospital. In the presence of Joint Director of Health Dr Mukhtar Hussain, ten girls were administered the vaccine during the inaugural session.
The event was attended by key health officials, including Superintendent Dr N Binoy Singh, District Immunization Officer Dr Ajanta Bordoloi, and Dr Bhagirath Dey, among others.
Officials stated that the campaign will continue at Udalguri Civil Hospital, with a focus on expanding coverage among eligible adolescents as part of efforts to reduce the long-term risk of cervical cancer.
