Guwahati: The ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone VI, Guwahati, in collaboration with the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, organised a two-day Annual Zonal Workshop 2025 on September 25–26 in Sikkim. The workshop focused on agricultural challenges and opportunities in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, while reviewing technologies through On-Farm Trials (OFTs) and Frontline Demonstrations (FLDs).
The event was inaugurated by Om Prakash Mathur, Governor of Sikkim, who stressed value addition in crops, particularly large cardamom, and called for more Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). He also underlined the role of drone technology in advancing agriculture in the North East.

Joining virtually, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the importance of natural and organic farming in the region, reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for transforming North Eastern agriculture. Minister of State Bhagirath Choudhary emphasized strengthening KVKs and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) for income generation and livelihood security.

The workshop featured presentations by scientists on state-specific issues and a technology exhibition showcasing ICAR innovations. Eminent dignitaries, researchers, and officials participated, reaffirming the need for collaborative efforts to enhance farmers’ capacities and promote sustainable farming in the region.
