ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI Hosts Live Launch of ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana’

Guwahati: The live telecast of the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PM-DDKY) was successfully held at ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati. Along with this flagship programme, the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses and the National Mission on Natural Farming were also launched across the country. Simultaneous events were organized at all Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) under Zone VI, covering Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.

The PM-DDKY seeks to transform 100 low-performing agricultural districts by enhancing productivity, promoting crop diversification, improving irrigation and storage infrastructure, and ensuring access to institutional credit—ultimately empowering farmers and strengthening rural livelihoods.

The Guwahati event was inaugurated by Bhabesh Kalita, MLA of Rangia, who commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for agricultural progress and urged farmers to embrace self-reliant and diversified farming. Krishna Kanta Bora, Secretary, Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, Assam, joined as Guest of Honour, stressing the importance of farmer awareness and education.

Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of technology dissemination and institutional collaboration. A farmer–scientist interaction session led by Dr. H.C. Bhattacharya and Dr. D.N. Kalita focused on strengthening Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) for better market access and value addition.

Over 350 farmers participated in the programme, reflecting strong enthusiasm toward achieving Aatmanirbhar Krishi and sustainable agricultural development in the Northeast.
