Guwahati, Jan 12: A tragic accident claimed the lives of a woman and her four-year-old daughter after a speeding dumper truck crashed into a residential house at Borbhitha village under Goroimari in South Kamrup on January 11, leaving three other family members critically injured.
According to preliminary reports, the dumper, allegedly engaged in illegal sand transportation, lost control near an embankment and skidded off the road. The heavy vehicle reportedly toppled from an elevated stretch built over the embankment and came crashing down onto the house, causing extensive damage to the structure.
At the time of the incident, the family of Hasan Ali was asleep inside the house. The sudden impact trapped all five occupants beneath the debris, triggering panic in the locality as neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing desperate cries for help.
Police teams from Goroimari, Jorshimuli and Sontoli police stations, assisted by local residents, launched a rescue operation that continued for several hours. Three members of the family were pulled out alive, while two were found dead after the dumper was removed from the collapsed house.
The victims were identified as Saleha Khatun and her four-year-old daughter, Majeda Khatun. The injured — Hasina Khatun, Tasleema Khatun and a one-year-old baby girl — were rescued in critical condition and rushed to hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
