India Shines with Four Medals at UWW World Grappling Championship

Guwahati: In a proud moment for Indian sports, the Grappling Federation of India (GFI) has brought home four medals from the prestigious UWW World Grappling Championship held in Greece. The achievement marks another milestone in India’s growing prominence on the international grappling stage.

Leading the medal tally for India, Vedashri Deshmukh and Samarth Ghvande each clinched bronze medals in the U-15 category, while Yashwant Singh made an exceptional mark by winning two bronze medals in the Veteran category.

Other Indian grapplers — Prince, Dharmesh Prajapati, Sai Sanjay Deshmukh, and Ayush Boraste — also delivered commendable performances, displaying skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

India’s representation at the global event was further strengthened by three GFI-accredited officials — Seema Devi, Naveen Rayal, and Santosh Deshmukh — whose contributions were instrumental in the team’s success.

Upon their return, the Indian contingent received a warm welcome at IGI Airport, New Delhi, by Nur Alom Sarkar, Joint Secretary of the Grappling Federation of India, Wasim Akram Millah, BCAS Certified AvSec Instructor, SpiceJet Headquarters, and Sandeep Borse, Technical Director, Grappling Association of Maharashtra.

Expressing pride in the athletes’ achievements, Nur Alom Sarkar lauded the team’s efforts and reaffirmed GFI’s commitment to nurturing young talent and expanding the sport’s reach across the nation. He emphasized that GFI remains steadfast in its mission to promote grappling in India and prepare athletes for even greater success on the world stage.
