Guwahati: The India Women’s Cricket Team is “fully prepared” for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held from September 30 to November 2, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia said.
Speaking to The Assam Rising expressed confidence in the squad’s prospects, highlighting their recent strong performances. “The Indian team has been doing extremely well. Defeating England in England, in both T20 and ODI formats, was not an easy task, but they did it handsomely. So far, India has not won any ICC Women’s Trophy. This is the biggest challenge, and the team is fully prepared to take it on,” he said.

India will open their campaign against Sri Lanka at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which will host its first major fixture since the June 4 stampede. The women in blue will aim to better their 2017 run, when they reached their second World Cup final but narrowly missed the title against England at Lord’s.
This edition also marks a milestone for the Northeast. Guwahati is set to host World Cup matches for the first time, after successfully staging warm-up fixtures during the 2023 ICC Men’s World Cup. Saikia said, “The infrastructure has improved greatly. As the only international venue in the Northeast, Guwahati is eagerly waiting for this tournament. With the opening game, we hope to firmly place our region on the world map of ICC tournaments.”
