Indian Army Rescues Over 20 Stranded Civilians at Sela Top Amid Harsh Weather

Tawang, Jan 9: The Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps on January 8 carried out a swift rescue operation at Sela Top in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, saving more than 20 stranded civilians amid extreme weather conditions and poor visibility.

Officials said the incident occurred after a civilian vehicle skidded on an icy stretch of road and collided with a roadside concrete safety slab due to heavy snowfall in the high-altitude region. Several passengers were left stranded in sub-zero temperatures, raising serious safety concerns.

Despite harsh weather and limited visibility, Army personnel quickly mobilised manpower and equipment to reach the site. The stranded civilians were safely evacuated, and immediate assistance was provided to avert further mishaps.

In addition to the rescue, Army troops extended support to other motorists by fitting tyre chains on private and passenger vehicles, helping them negotiate the snow-covered and slippery road conditions at Sela Top.

The timely intervention by the Indian Army helped restore movement along the route and ensured the safety of travellers during severe winter conditions. Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution while travelling through high-altitude passes and to adhere to safety advisories issued by local administrations during adverse weather.
