International Day Against Drug Abuse: Himanta Biswa Sarma Reaffirms Assam’s Commitment to Fight Drug Menace

Guwahati, June 26: On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed the State government’s resolve to intensify its fight against drug abuse through sustained enforcement and public awareness initiatives.

In a message shared on social media platform X on Friday, Sarma said the government has been giving high priority to tackling the drug menace and continues to pursue an uncompromising campaign against narcotics.

“Today, we mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a subject which our Govt is working on very closely with a relentless crackdown against drugs,” the Chief Minister stated.

He emphasised that protecting the younger generation remains one of the government’s foremost priorities and reiterated its determination to shield them from the devastating impact of substance abuse.

“We remain committed to preserve the future of our youth and save them from this social destruction,” he added.

In recent years, Assam Police have intensified anti-narcotics operations across the state, leading to multiple seizures of suspected narcotic substances and the arrest of alleged drug traffickers as part of the government’s ongoing campaign to curb the illegal drug trade.
