Imphal, March 8: Govindas Konthoujam on March 8 flagged off a 15 km and 7 km empowerment run at Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal, Manipur, to mark International Women’s Day.
The event was organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to promote awareness about women’s empowerment.
Addressing participants, Konthoujam emphasised the importance of empowering women for the development of society and the nation. He said that when women are given equal opportunities and importance, the country becomes stronger.
The minister also referred to the emphasis laid on women’s empowerment by Narendra Modi and highlighted the need to ensure greater opportunities and recognition for women.
“We should give importance to our women,” the minister said while extending his best wishes to women on the occasion.
The run witnessed participation from students and members of the public and aimed to spread awareness about women’s rights and empowerment.
