IR Approves 202 Additional Train Stoppages at 82 Stations under NFR

Guwahati: In a major passenger-friendly move, Indian Railways has approved 202 additional stoppages of trains at 82 stations across Assam, West Bengal and Bihar under the jurisdiction of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). The decision aims to enhance rail connectivity, especially for smaller and emerging locations, while addressing long-standing public demand. The additional halts have been sanctioned on an experimental basis and will come into effect shortly. Their performance will be closely monitored based on passenger response and operational feasibility.

Several premium and long-distance trains have been included in the initiative. The New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati Vande Bharat Express will now halt at Rangiya, while the Anand Vihar–Agartala Rajdhani Express will stop at New Haflong and New Cooch Behar. The Kolkata–Sairang and Guwahati–Sairang Express trains have been provided stoppages at Katakhal and Katlicherra respectively. Notably, the New Delhi–Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express will now halt at Dhemaji, Sibsagar Town and Vishwanath Chariali, improving access to Rajdhani services for passengers in Upper Assam.

In addition, several mail and express services, including Guwahati–Howrah, Dibrugarh–Howrah, Kamakhya–Puri, Silchar–Guwahati and Alipurduar–Delhi Express trains, have been covered under the expanded plan. Stations such as Rangiya, Nalbari, Barpeta Road, Kokrajhar, New Alipurduar, Bagdogra, Dalkhola, Sivok and New Mal Junction are among those selected. The stoppages are expected to benefit semi-urban and rural passengers by improving access to major junctions. Passengers are advised to check updated schedules through official railway enquiry systems.
