Guwahati: In a heartfelt tribute to Assam’s beloved cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the island in Singapore where the singer tragically lost his life has been renamed “Zubeen Garg Island” on Google Maps. The gesture has stirred deep emotions among fans worldwide, who have flooded social media with tributes and screenshots celebrating the honor.
Zubeen Garg, 52, reportedly died on September 19 following a scuba diving incident near St. John’s Island while attending the North East India Festival in Singapore. Despite being rushed to Singapore General Hospital, he could not be revived. His sudden death sent shockwaves across Assam and beyond, sparking protests, FIRs, and a high-profile investigation.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has handed over a copy of the autopsy report and preliminary findings to the High Commission of India. Police in both countries continue to investigate the circumstances of his death, urging the public not to circulate unverified photos or videos related to the incident.

Back in Assam, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) has intensified its parallel probe, recently arresting Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, both co-artists of Zubeen, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to four.
Zubeen’s mortal remains were flown from Singapore to Delhi and later to Guwahati, where thousands gathered to bid a tearful farewell. Even in death, the iconic artist continues to unite people across borders—his name now forever etched on the map of Singapore.
